best poems for funerals

Central to the funeral and concluding the public grieving period following a death is the eulogy, a funeral speech about the person who died. The purpose of the eulogy is to pay tribute to the deceased as a distinct individual, with unique talents and gifts, who will live on in the memories of the people who loved him.

You are grieving and emotionally drained that you may have a difficult time preparing for this last homage. Only time heals such grief but in the mean while if there are words of comfort sometimes they help the grieving people by giving them a different perspective of the unfortunate event. Appropriate humorous anecdotes may be interjected to lighten up the feeling of the audience.

In some situations you may be speaking about the person from one point of view, family, work colleagues, golfing buddies, or whatever. You may choose to concentrate on a particular aspect of life of the deceased. Look at your local bookstore for poetry books that have memorial or condolence poems included or search online for posted poetry.
